IMPORTANT PARENTS MEETING!

DON’T MISS THE FREE RAFFLE!

On the evening of Thursday, May 4th, a very important meeting concerning the future of Carolina International School’s PTSO will be held, and we want everyone’s voice to be heard when we vote on the following matters:

   1.  Election of officers for the 2006-2007 school year; and

   2. Adoption of by-laws governing PTSO operation.

SPECIAL NOTE! To encourage your participation, a raffle will be held that evening and your attendance is the only requirement for entry. The prize, donated by a CIS family, will be a four-day, three-night stay at a newly built condominium in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina! This condo has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths and a spacious screened porch overlooking a lake and is two blocks away from the ocean. The condominium complex includes several swimming pools as well as a fitness facility and is just minutes away from all the attractions the Myrtle Beach area has to offer – golf, entertainment, etc.

Golfers are encouraged to turn in your registration forms, and non-golfers are reminded that you are invited to the awards dinner, catered by Carrabbas’s. May 1st is the deadline for hole sponsorships. Thanks to all those already registered!

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK

The Teacher Appreciation Committee would like to thank all of our parents for making the CIS teachers feel appreciated throughout the year. National Teacher Appreciation Week is the first week of May (May 1-5). This is another opportunity to let our teachers know how special they are and how much we appreciate their hard work.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS NEWS

There were several important decisions made at the Board of Directors meeting on April 13th. The Board approved the expansion plan for 2007, potentially adding a third class at each grade level beginning with K-2. This would need to be approved by the State Board of Education.

The Board also approved the plans for next year’s addition of 9th grade which will establish our Junior High School (grades 7-9), the JHS starting time of 8:30am, and our local graduation requirements for high school.

The Board also expanded from 8 to 11 members with the appointment of Dr. Charles Hutchison (UNC-C Education Professor and a native of Ghana), Mary Kay Murray (Environmental scientist), and Dr. Amy White (CPCC Education Professor). These individuals strengthen the Board in school curriculum and administration, international affairs, and conservation/ecology, as recommended by the Board’s By-Laws.
