LOST & FOUND MOUND…
Please stop by the main office to see if you can claim some lost items. Once more we have accumulated a mound of lost and found! We will be donating these items to our school community on Nov. 16th.
FALL PICTURE RE-TAKES
If your child was absent on Fall picture day, retakes will be on Thursday, November 9th. They are required to wear the school special occasion uniform: the white polo shirt with CIS logo.
NEW EARTH SAVERS CLUB
One of our new clubs is cleaning and beautifying our campus, under the direction of 2nd grade teaching assistant Tammi Remsburg. The club meets before and after school to plan service projects and learn about the environment.

The Earth Savers Creed
As an Earth Saver, I will:
Pick up trash no matter where I may be;
Recycle and compost my waste;
Reduce and Reuse what I can;
Use less water and paper towels;
Admire animals in their habitats
and teach others to protect them;
Care for trees and other plants;
And respect each other.
KINDERGARTEN SERVICE PROJECT
The kindergarteners are participating in a community service project by donating their spare change to the Charlotte Soup Kitchen. They are also asking others to donate their spare change so there are collection jars in Ms. Morton’s room, Ms. Wage’s room, and both school offices. At the end of the year, the children will go on a field trip to the soup kitchen to personally deliver the check.
U.N.I.T.E. GUEST ON CAMPUS
Our CIS community is honored to welcome Ugandan educator Mugume Johnson, representing the UNITE program (Uganda and North Carolina International Teaching for the Environment). Mr. Johnson has taught all ages of students in Uganda; he is currently the 6th grade science, language arts, and social studies teacher. He has 52 students in his class.
This is Mr. Johnson’s first trip outside of Uganda, but he has seen the benefits of the UNITE program—the new classrooms, furniture, water storage systems, books, and other donations to schools in Uganda from UNITE member schools in North Carolina.
SOLAR POWER FUND-RAISING
Mr. Johnson’s school does not have electricity, but CIS is starting a “Change for Change” campaign to help, led by Mrs. Kawski’s 4th graders (Mr. and Mrs. Kawski are currently hosting Mr. Johnson in their home.) The goal is $1,000 from our entire community. That would allow Mr. Johnson’s school to purchase two solar power systems so they could have electric lights for their boarding students benefit. He explains that as the students get older, they fall behind academically in comparison with other Ugandan students. Some of them stay at the school during the week as boarding students to invest extra time in their studies, but they only have candles to light the night. Electric lights will enable them to improve their academic progress and comfort.
If you would like to donate to this “Change for Change” campaign, please send money to school with your children for their homeroom teacher to collect. Checks should be made payable to “CIS: Change for Change Campaign.”
