CIS INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL

Mark your calendar! The 1st Annual CIS International Festival, “Window to the World,” is Saturday, November 18th from 9am-2pm at Rocky River Elementary School. International food, entertainment, fashion shows, displays, activities, and presentations will entertain and educate us all.

Please make plans to join the festivities. If you’d like to assist in organizing the event, please contact Dr. Beall at beallr@ciscomets.org or 704-455-3847 ext. 6.

NEW PICK-UP: 1 LANE UNTIL 3PM

Last week we needed to bring emergency vehicles to campus at the end of the school day—fire trucks and an ambulance. Their access was reduced by the two lanes of traffic parked for pick-up. They had to enter through the only outbound lane, with other cars attempting to leave at that time. Precious minutes could save or cost a life in some situations.

As a solution to this situation, we will only permit stacking in one lane until 3pm. At that time we will move the cars forward in the order you arrived. This gives us almost an hour of safer, easier traffic flow. Thanks for your cooperation with this new policy.

FIRE PREVENTION WEEK

Fire Prevention Week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire, the tragic 1871 event that killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures and burned more than 2,000 acres.  The fire did most of its damage on October 9, 1871. In 1920, President Woodrow Wilson issued the first National Fire Prevention Day proclamation, and it is now the longest running public health and safety observance on record.

Fire Prevention Week is October 8-14th and the American Red Cross is urging families to prepare for home fires, the most common disaster in the United States. A home fire can be devastating, with consequences ranging from losing possessions and keepsakes to the unthinkable - injury or death of a family member. The theme of this year's Fire Prevention Week is "Prevent Cooking Fires—Watch What You Heat." Home fires are more likely to start in the kitchen than any other room in the home.

According to a recent poll from the Red Cross, four out of five Americans are unaware that home fires are as common as they are. The American Red Cross responded to more than 73,000 disasters in communities across the United States last year, 92 percent of which were fire related. A home fire is reported every 79 seconds in the US. What's more, the Red Cross also found the only about a quarter of the families polled have actually developed and practiced a home fire escape plan.   Please use this week to talk about the importance of fire safety and take actions to make sure your family is prepared in the event of a home fire. Thank you!

Teacher Luncheon Was A Success!
As many of you might already know, we had our first teacher luncheon last Wednesday and it was an incredible encouragement to all the teachers.  This could not have come together without the assistance of:  Vicki Dotson, Peggy Chwalek, Amanda Currie, Kim Fowler, Sandra Hutchinson, Annemarie Irons, Coleen Keith, Andrea McKay, Julie Paul, Kari Potts, Karen Powell, Michelle Robinson, Nicci Roebuck, Laura Sias, Heika Sweeney, Mary Tautin, and Barbara Viehmann.  The Teacher Encouragement Team THANKS YOU for allowing this event to be a success.

The Teacher Encouragement Team received an overwhelming response from parents/guardians who wanted to assist and service the teachers.  We’d like to personally thank you too your kind hearts and want you to know we will be contacting you as we have 3 more luncheons coming up throughout the year.

Thank you, CIS parents/guardians, for assisting in making our Community the best.

The Teacher Encouragement Team

Teacher Lunch Donation Can

Karen King has organized an “Order Out Lunch Program” for the teachers. The staff has been divided into four groups. Each week a group will have the opportunity to place their order for lunch. Karen will place the order, go to the restaurant and pick up the food and deliver lunch to the teachers lounge. A Donation Can will be place in the main office if your child would like to make a donation for a teacher or staff member’s lunch.

Teachers’ Secret Pals

Annemarie Irons would like to thank all the parents who have volunteered to participate in this program. Please remember to encourage your teachers at least once a month. The teachers are buzzing with excitement, so have fun with your secret pal.
