PE

Uniforms

We are excited to announce a new service available to our school community!

This is a service provided to you by the Athletics Service Team.  You can now order your child’s PE uniforms through the Service team and they will be sent to the school.  We will then separate the orders and the uniforms will be sent home with the students.   The new PE uniforms will have the Comets logo on both the shirt and the shorts/sweatpants.  We will continue to honor the old uniform shirts, but will require every student to have the new Comets shorts/sweatpants.

The many benefits of the program are:

-Convenience of ordering through the school, no running around town trying to find the right sizes and colors etc.

-Uniformity in appearance

-Quality uniforms at an affordable and competitive price

-Provides an income to the Athletics Program at CIS

-Order your uniforms now and have them when school starts in the fall

We are very excited about this program and hope that you will embrace it.   Thank you for all of your support and for having your children learning and growing with us at CIS.

Sincerely,

Items discussed were:

Proposal for PE uniforms to be ordered and processed under the Athletic Service Team’s (AST) responsibility.  Profits would be paid to the Athletic Service Team for all organized team sports.  Charlotte Halperin prepared a proposal based in prices quoted from George Mohr, to the group in attendance.  The group requested that Ms. Halperin check with another supplier for a competitive quote.  Also, wanted Ms. Halperin to obtain some samples of the proposed uniforms from Mr. Mohr.

Priorities for the sports programs at CIS.  What are they and what comes first?

-What organized team sports will we participate in for the upcoming school year?  The only sport that we will commit to with the CGAA (Charlotte Gastonia Athletic Association) at this time, is soccer.  We have 2 coaches that have stepped up and said they will commit to the season.  They are Earl King and Jeff Mitchell (part-time).  If anyone else wants to help they will be welcomed.  If we have any other team sports we will have to have 2 parent volunteer coaches committed to the job.

-Who will attend the CGAA meeting on Monday, April 10,2006?  Richard Beall and Earl King agree to attend.

-Scheduling of games after school.  Concerns about time missed from class, distance to games, and geographic locations of opponent schools.  It was agreed that these concerns would be brought up at the CGAA meeting on April 10th.

-Richard Beall submitted an outline agenda of priorities that the Athletic Service Team reviewed and agreed on.

At the end of the meeting it was agreed that we would have a follow up meeting on April 11th at 4:15 PM.

Follow up given on the CGAA meeting on April 10th by Richard Beall and Earl King.

We are on the agenda for the 2006-2007 soccer season with the CGAA league.  We will host home games at CIS this year.  As a result of making this commitment we identified what needed to be done in order to have the soccer field ready for league play by the 1st home game.  We estimated costs for the goals, grass seed, paint, equipment, referees, and registration fees to the league.  The estimates ran from $2600 to $3000 to get the field ready for a soccer competition.  It was also decided that we would order a soccer jersey and socks only for the team.  We will use the PE shorts for playing the soccer games.

We also discussed the volleyball season.  Sandi Vielbaum and Charlotte Halperin have stepped up to be the coaches of the team.

Margaret Harris-Thornton has agreed to contact the referees’ “broker” and find out what his requirements are and the prices for the referees for each sport.

The PE uniform program is approved and agreed that we will send out to the entire school population.

Respectfully submitted by:

 Charlotte Halperin

It was decided that we would form a team and it would serve and support the school Athletic team sports.  The team will have 3 coordinators who will coordinate with Mr. Morris and Ms. Bonisteel concerning all sports related needs.  The 3 coordinators are:

Patty Whitecavage-chair, Sarah Baxter-Treasurer, and Charlotte Halperin-Secretary

There will be several committees that will work together to get the needs met.  People who stepped up to take the lead are as follows:

We need leads for the following areas: Carpooling, Public Relations Fundraising/Sponsorship, and Concessions.  It was decided that Charlotte Halperin would type a flyer for distribution to the entire school to recruit volunteers for assistance with these needs.  This flyer would circulate on Tuesday, February 6, 2006.  It will be submitted for approval before distribution.

It was determined that we have 3 seasons of sports and they are as follows:

Fall-girls volleyball, soccer, and cross-country track and field

Intramural sports were briefly discussed and decided that for the time being they would not be offered.

All were in agreement that we need to meet again, however no time was decided.
